On-campus accommodation

Living ‘on campus’ in a residential college or hall can help ease many of the pressures of living away from home.

As a resident in a college or hall, you’ll enjoy:

  • safe, easy access to UWA’s libraries, lecture theatres, gym, swimming pools and other sporting and cultural facilities;
  • comfortable accommodation (a furnished room with telephone and internet access, heating and air conditioning) and balanced meals;
  • an opportunity to mix with a broad range of people and make plenty of friends;
  • a rich and varied social life;
  • the freedom to pursue your interests;
  • a relaxed environment where there is always someone to offer support if needed.

Atmosphere

The colleges, adjacent to the Crawley campus, welcome students of all faiths and nationalities and offer a friendly and supportive environment. Lecture theatres, libraries, sporting facilities, an art gallery and four performance theatres are close by.

Activities organised by the Student Guild, clubs, concerts, sporting fixtures, outdoor movies, live performances are always happening on campus. The colleges are adjacent to Kings Park, a magnificent 400-hectare park of botanic gardens and bushland.

The campus and residential colleges are close to public transport for access to Perth’s central business district, Fremantle, major shopping centres and beaches. There is a network of cycle paths for an economical and efficient transport alternative.

College communities include resident academic staff and postgraduate students, as well as undergraduates. Former students maintain links with their colleges and can be an invaluable source of information, assistance with preparing curriculum vitae, professional contacts and opportunities for work experience.

Comfortable facilities

Relax on lawnEach student has his or her own fully-furnished study-bedroom, which is cleaned weekly. Bathroom facilities are usually shared by small groups of same-sex students and are cleaned daily. Most students supply their own bedding but pillows and blankets are provided. Every room has a telephone and data port and all the colleges are linked to UWA by fibre optic cable.

The dining rooms serve three meals a day and provide for packed lunches and early and late meals, if necessary. All dietary needs are catered for, with Asian as well as Australian menus, halal and vegetarian meals, salads and fresh fruit available.

College facilities include computer rooms, photocopiers, libraries, music practice rooms, pianos, tutorial rooms, chapels, television and video rooms, party rooms, laundries and billiard tables. Kitchenettes are available for students to prepare snacks and drinks. The colleges have their own sporting facilities, including basketball, squash and tennis courts.

A great social life

Each college has a student club which organises balls, cafe crawls, river cruises, trips to Rottnest Island, theme dinners, parties and intercollege sports (including basketball, volleyball, hockey, netball and football). Students quickly learn to establish their priorities and maintain a balance between study and social life.

Security

Security guards patrol the colleges at night and residential advisers are on call for any minor problems. The colleges provide residents with their own room keys which cannot be copied. All colleges have fire protection systems and most have security screens on windows and doors.

Academic support

There are resident tutors to conduct tutorials and provide academic assistance. Tutors usually work at UWA or are postgraduate students who are familiar with course work, and provide support and encouragement for students.

Colleges

There are five residential colleges affiliated with, or owned by UWA, providing housing for more than 1,000 students:

Indicative costs for residential college are provided as a guide, but you should check each of the colleges sites for more information on costs and application deadlines.

Note: Students who will be under 18 years of age when they start at UWA must have a place in a college (or a guardian with them in Perth until they turn 18.) Please contact the UWA International Centre to discuss your options. Students applying for college places in July are encouraged to submit their applications as soon as possible.
